We apologize for the delay in sending this; Sean wanted to make sure he got in the play file for the night elves before the week was up, and then we simply didn’t have time in between to send this. So (a day late) we begin Theme Week: Orcs. This week marks a turning point for us, due to alphabetical ordering, this is the first week we’ve done a Horde race other than the Blood Elves, and all the weeks from here are in are Horde. We’ve shifted from Sean’s favorite faction to Jess’s, which should prove interesting.
Along with humans, orcs are what we might call one of the ‘iconic’ races of World of Warcraft, the races that have been in the game since the beginning and define the conflict. In addition, they’re the staple fantasy monster. Yet Warcraft imagines orcs differently; as shamans, a race of former slaves, trying to find a home of their own. Is it successful? Has this ground been trod before? What, or maybe even who, do orcs represent?
We’d love to hear your thoughts as always. Please send any ideas for guest columns to email@example.com. Until then, aka’Magosh.
